Setting up Microsoft Outlook XP

March 25th, 2008

This blog entry offers assistance in configuring your email client to download email from our mail servers using Microsoft’s Outlook XP version 2003.

Once you have set up email accounts on your KeyclicksÂŽ hosting control panel, (or Keyclicks have done this for you), you will need to configure the e-mail client on your PC to allow you to download them.

An email client is the programme you use on your computer to send and receive emails. Examples are Microsoft’s Outlook and Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger and Mozilla Thunderbird. There are plenty of others available; the principal is the same with each.

Previously it’s been thought that ‘blogging’ was just for kids or geeks. However, whilst this is still the case to a certain degree; blogs are starting to be recognised by businesses both big and small as a way to ‘connect with their customers’ as a way to either enhance a brand, drive traffic to a website or simply to announce news .

Why You Need a Google SiteMap

March 3rd, 2008

Why Have a Google Site Map?

In June 2005 Google launched a new service called Google SiteMaps™.

Google SiteMaps allow website owners to quickly submit their website’s new or modified page URLs (web addresses) to Google’s web crawling spider which is called “Googlebot”. Google SiteMaps have no influence upon search engine ranking performance or the calculation of a site’s PageRank™ value; however what they will do is allow a site owner to get their site quickly indexed by Googlebot faster than ever before. This in turn ensures that all the pages within a website are quickly indexed and included into Google’s search results, thus improving search engine visibility for the site.

Transfer Your Domain Away

February 25th, 2008

If you’re looking to transfer your domain name away from the Keyclicks servers and/or registry to another hosting provider or registry, then we ask that you please make the request in writing either by post (snail mail) or by fax using 01274 869 881.

Both methods of request need to be made on company headed paper from the domain’s legal registrant i.e. the person or company that is listed in the WHOIS record for the domain (this may be different to the account holder for your company at Keyclicks so please be careful).

NB: We know this is a pain, but we need to be sure from a legal stance that the transfer request is a genuine one.

This is a simple administrative task for your existing domain name hosting provider (that’s the theory anyway). Many providers also let you manage your domain name yourself through a web based control panel (look for “DNS Control”, “DNS Management” or the “Name server Management” section under your control panel), if you fancy tacking the job yourself.
