Why Have a Business Blog

Over the last 2-3 years Weblogs or “Blogs” as they are called have exploded in popularity .

Previously it’s been thought that ‘blogging’ was just for kids or geeks. However, whilst this is still the case to a certain degree; blogs are starting to be recognised by businesses both big and small as a way to ‘connect with their customers’ as a way to either enhance a brand, drive traffic to a website or simply to announce news .

So why should your business use a blog? After all if you’ve already spent time and money developing your website, what’s the point of spending even more time and money on developing and maintaining a blog.

Here are five good reasons why your company would benefit from a blog:

1. Announce new products or Services to your customers.
One of the best things about a blog is the announcing of new products which will be available for purchase, or bring attention to new services that you will be providing. This can be good especially if you don’t plan to update your normal company website that often and want to make a simple and informal ‘blog post’ about it to inform current and potential customers.
2. Shout about upcoming sales or special events.
What better way than to announce on your blog that you will be having an upcoming sale. If the content of your blog is good quality articles, then adding in an announcement about the special offer sale that your online shopping site will be having in the near future can be a nice touch. This can lead to people coming back to your website more often to check on deals you may be offering. The more loyalty you build for your site the greater the potential for a sales.
3. Get on a more intimate level.
Your blog gives you a great opportunity to build relationships with customers on a more personal level. It helps to give you more credibility and shows customers what you are about. This is especially important when it comes to repeat customers, and those who really do want to know who you are.
4. Help guide public image.
Your customers, suppliers and employees have a defined perception about your business its products and services (hopefully a good one). This perception is formed from a number of different sources including your website. How you control that perception is primarily how you market your company’s activities and the experiences people have when they come into contact with it. A blog helps you define that perception online.
5. Create more quality content and drive traffic to your site.
Search engines and in particular Google, love changing and worthwhile content on websites, as this indicates that the site is being regularly updated as as such, is likely to be relevant to its subject matter which in turn makes it more popular. This is one of the big USPs of blogs as by their very nature have frequently changing content and lots of people visiting them. As a result Google and many of the other search engines place a lot of emphasis on blogs. So a blog on your website with cross links back to specific pages on your website will help a lot with search engine placement as well as targeting areas of your website you want more traffic to get too. The more articles you write, the more content you have which is relevant in search engines. This means more natural web traffic for you, which in turn leads to more sales or enquiries for your business.
